Every few years our email server turns on us and buries an inquiry, and that’s exactly what happened when Elly + Nate reached out about their fall wedding at Wagon Wheel Barn. Thankfully Elly was persistent and followed up — we genuinely hate to think we might have missed these two entirely. We’re really glad she did.

5 Things We Loved About Elly + Nate’s Wedding

– A foggy morning and a rainy ceremony that only made the day better. We’ll keep saying it — couples who lean into the weather instead of fighting it always end up with something more interesting. The fog rolling across Wagon Wheel’s fields that morning was something else, and the rain during the ceremony just added to it. Some of our favorite frames from this whole day came from that.

– A group of Nate’s college choir performed under a big oak tree and it was outstanding. Outside, under those branches, with that many voices — it’s one of those moments you don’t forget. The kind of thing that makes guests look at each other like, did you know this was happening?

– A live string band playing inside the barn. There is something about live strings in an old wooden barn that just lands differently — the acoustics do half the work for you.

– The yellow bus photo booth. It arrived and immediately became the best thing at the party.

– Outdoor dancing on the patio. The barn behind you, the night air, the string lights — Wagon Wheel is set up perfectly for it. A natural progression from dinner inside to dancing outside, and nobody wanted it to end.

– The Barn at Wagon Wheel Farm is one of those venues that earns its reputation — and a big part of that is James and Chelsea, who run the place with the kind of care you only get when it’s genuinely personal. This is a third-generation family farm, and James and Chelsea had their own wedding here in 2015 before taking over. They’re not just hosting your day, they’re sharing something that belongs to them. On Elly and Nate’s wedding day, when the rain moved in, James and Chelsea were out there hustling — moving things around, wiping down every chair by hand so guests had a dry seat. That’s the kind of detail that doesn’t show up in venue brochures but means everything on the day. Sitting on over 100 acres at the southernmost tip of the Kettle Moraine, with a restored 1840s dairy barn, rolling cornfields, and century-old oaks, the place is beautiful — but it’s the people running it that make it truly special. It even landed in Martha Stewart Weddings, and honestly, no surprise there.
