5 Things We Loved About Heather + Scott’s Camp Wandawega Wedding
– Mid-week getaway weddings are pretty great. There’s something about a Tuesday or Wednesday wedding that shifts the whole energy — the people who show up really want to be there, and the whole thing feels less like an event and more like everyone escaped together for a few days. 10/10 would recommend.
– Ax throwing and archery happened (no injuries). We’ll be honest — when those made it onto the activity list, we were curious. Turns out ax throwing is both photogenic and taken very seriously by wedding guests. Zero injuries, maximum bragging rights.
– Scott brewed the beer. Of all the things a groom can do to put his fingerprints on a wedding day, brewing the beer might be at the top of the list. Guests were drinking something he made with his own hands. That detail never gets old.
– Camp Wandawega keeps getting prettier — and honestly, that’s a credit to owners David and Tereasa, who have been quietly pouring themselves into this place since 2003. David grew up spending summers here when it was a Latvian church camp in the ’70s, so when the property came up for sale, they bought it rather than let it go. What they’ve built since isn’t a renovation so much as a resurrection — a hundred years of genuine history (speakeasy, church camp, lakeside resort) preserved and layered rather than stripped out and redone. That’s where all that nostalgic character comes from. It’s not a vibe they invented — it’s one they protected. Every time we photograph there, we notice something we hadn’t before, and that never gets old.
– El Grito Taco Truck! We don’t think we need to say much more here. If you’ve had El Grito, you understand completely. If you haven’t — a Camp Wandawega wedding might just be your excuse.
