At some point in the process of getting to know our couples, we ask them, “Why us?” — Katelynn’s answer went straight to our hearts:
After getting engaged, we celebrated by telling Cory’s family – I felt compelled to tell Alicia [twin sister] first and so everyone else in my family was on hold until she answered her phone the next day – then some glorious days passed before I succumbed to the vast internet of wedding-ness and realized there’s a LOT of sameness/traditions/blah (not hating, I am already saving mason jars) — but your work immediately stood out from the rest and stuck in my mind as: THIS is exactly how I want to remember our wedding day. I love the candidness of your photos that capture such small and subtle moments, which are the most emotion-provoking and which are the ones I want to remember.
We hope you enjoy this candidness + the aesthetic + the emotion. It’s so easy for us to document when it’s already naturally there. :)

Looking back at these photos, this wedding was a blast from start to finish. Katelynn and her twin sister say exactly what they’re feeling and laugh at themselves just as easily, and that spirit ran through the whole day. From getting ready together at the hair salon through the first look and everything after, the ease and joy of Katelynn, Cory, and both of their families made this one of our favorite weddings to shoot.
A few things we loved about this day: Katelynn and Cory pulled funny, unposed photos of their guests off the internet, printed them, and clipped them to strings on a wall so guests could grab their own on the way to find their seats. We hadn’t seen escort cards done like that before, and guests clearly loved digging through the wall to find their photo.
They also held their reception in the woods just off the main building, in a shaded pocket of trees Aldo Leopold Nature Center tucks away a few steps from the ceremony space. It has become one of our regular stops as Madison wedding photographers, and we have photographed a second wedding there since. We love outdoor weddings, full stop, but Wisconsin summers hand you plenty of bright, unshaded afternoons, and real shade like this is rare to find at an outdoor venue. It kept everyone comfortable and made for some of our favorite light of the day.
And during the first look, Cory teared up the moment he saw Katelynn in her dress. Still gets us every time we look back at these.
