Kristen grew up considering Wisconsin home, even after years in Seattle, so when she and Alex started planning their wedding, Folklore Village — tucked into the hills outside Dodgeville — was the only real option.

Alex is a touring drummer who’s spent the last several years on the road with Seattle indie bands like David Bazan and Pickwick.

Kristen manages an urban farm and youth garden program, growing vegetables for Seattle’s food scene, so of course, their wedding was filled with great tunes and awesome food.

Their families flew in from three different states — Wisconsin, Washington, and California. Alex told us ahead of time that the reception was what he cared about most: getting both families in the same room, adding a little alcohol and the enthusiasm of his longtime Seattle friends, and watching everyone hit it off. Kristen’s version of the same wish was simpler — she wanted people comfortable, well fed, and getting to know each other. Catering came from Underground Food Collective. Yum.

Judging by the number of happy tears we caught on camera, everyone got what they came for. We always tell family members ahead of time not to worry — we love happy criers. ;)

We’re also a little intense about nailing golden hour. This one was a close call, but we got the glowy light we were chasing.
