We’re always on the hunt for great places to get married in Wisconsin, and years ago, on our way toward Madison, we pulled off in Mazomanie and spent an afternoon at the Old Feed Mill. It’s a restored 19th-century feed mill turned restaurant and event venue, run by the Viste family, and it’s the kind of place that photographs beautifully without anyone having to try — old brick, timber, a river-town feel that Madison-area barns can’t quite match.

The building holds three real options for a wedding: the Rye Room on the main floor, and the Granary and Miller’s Loft upstairs, each seating around 100. Combine the upstairs rooms and you’re closer to 200, and there’s an outdoor tent option if you want to push toward 300. But the honest pitch here isn’t the ceiling — it’s that a 60 or 80-person wedding fills one of these rooms exactly right, in a way it never would in a barn built to hold three times that many people.

Here’s the part most couples researching this area don’t know. The same family runs the kitchen at Sugarland Barn, twenty minutes up the road in Arena — Dan and Nancy Viste took on the Old Feed Mill first, then restored Sugarland’s barn and opened it as a wedding venue in 2013. Today, the Old Feed Mill is Sugarland’s exclusive caterer. So these were never really two unconnected venues we happened to like. It’s the same food, the same family, in two very different rooms. If Sugarland’s 320-guest barn is more space than your wedding needs, the Old Feed Mill is what that same kitchen looks like at a fraction of the size.
